Thoughtful design is a core building block of our community that not only provides the framework to live an eco-friendly life but also inspires positive daily stewardship. Chatham Park is pioneering a bright and renewable future from our green buildings and energy-efficient homes to our solar farm.

Curious about how to make the most of Chatham Park’s eco-friendly features? Here are some of our best tips to aid the environment—and your wallet.

Smart Features
Did you know our ecoSelect® Plus certified residences offer 30% more energy efficiency versus same building built to NC code standards? As a result, Chatham Park’s ecoSelect® Plus certified homes avoided 438K pounds of carbon emissions from 2020 to 2022 – nearly $600 annual energy savings per home! With so many renewable features available, it’s never been easier to enjoy a residential experience that is both environmentally conscious and cutting-edge. Read our Community Energy Savings dashboard for more information!

Our Tip?  Take a moment to learn about the energy-saving features of your ecoSelect® home. For example, take advantage of our pre-wiring for high-speed fiber internet & smart home system, or use your home’s electric vehicle-ready power supply!

Water Usage
Thanks to Chatham Park’s Water Recovery Center, we recycle greywater from baths, sinks, and appliances for irrigation and machinery purposes. Did you know our Center houses one of only two onsite systems like it in the entire country? Our pillar of sustainability carries over to our homes, which feature WaterSense® bathroom toilets and faucets that can help each family save an average of 700 gallons of water per year.

Our Tip?  Only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they are full. Additionally, conduct regular leak hunts to ensure none of your faucets or hoses are dripping. Just a 1/16-inch opening in your faucet could waste 100 gallons of water a day!

Solar Power
In partnership with Strata Clean Energy, our 46+-acre solar farm, Tinker Farm, provides clean energy and greatly reduces air pollution and greenhouse gasses. Altogether, Tinker Farm powers approximately 750 homes in the area. We’ve also planted 12 acres of native plants and grasses in the area to create a combined habitat and food source for local birds and insects.

Our Tip?  As a part of the overall ecoSelect® design process, homes undergo a solar evaluation that helps the buyer take their next steps toward energy independence – all ecoSelect® homes are solar-ready! Additionally, running multiple appliances throughout the day can drain solar energy, causing you to dip into your electricity reserves and rack up costs. Instead, use home appliances one at a time and schedule regular panel inspections with Southern Energy Management.

EV Charging
Our Chatham Park homes are designed with a dedicated power supply to enable an easy EV charger installation. Electric vehicles save up to $1,000 annually on gas costs and create half the greenhouse gas emissions as gas-powered cars.

Our Tip? Use your home EV charger during off-peak times to save money on your utility bill. A rooftop solar panel can also allow you to utilize clean energy, as well as gain net metering benefits.

In Chatham Park, we offer a variety of community-wide initiatives and are committed to doing our part in creating a more sustainable tomorrow. Interested in the Chatham Park lifestyle?
